Create an account

Signing up takes about a minute, and setup is eight short steps you can change later.

  1. Open Surf in a browser and choose Sign up.
  2. Enter an email address and a password.
  3. Confirm your date of birth. You must be at least 13 years old.
  4. Pick a username and a display name.
  5. Verify your email from the link sent to you.

Setup, step by step

After sign-up, an eight-step walkthrough gets your account to a usable state. Every answer is editable afterwards in Settings.

  1. Birthday. Used to check your age. Accounts under 13 are not created.
  2. Profile. Display name and username.
  3. Photo and bio. Both optional, both changeable.
  4. Background. A cover image for your profile, or the default.
  5. Interests. Pick topics to seed your feed. You also join the matching Spaces.
  6. Content language. Posts are auto-translated into it.
  7. Feed. A first pass at the algorithm: what you see, how recent, popularity.
  8. People to follow. Suggestions matched to the topics you picked.
Nothing in setup is permanent. Interests and the feed pass are only a starting point, and Your feed covers the full set of controls.

Invite codes

If someone sent you an invite code, it is six characters long and each code can be used up to ten times. Enter it when prompted during sign-up.
