Getting paid
Fan subscriptions, Super Chats and brand deals, all inside the product, with the fee stated for each.
There are three rails. Accepting fan subscriptions and brand deals requires Sapphire Pro, which the first deal generally covers.
| Rail | Range | Platform fee |
|---|---|---|
| Fan subscriptions | $3 to $200 a month | 20% |
| Super Chats | $3 to $500 per message | 20% |
| Brand deals | $50 to $50,000 per deal | 8% |
Surf pays the card processing fees out of its share rather than deducting them from yours on top.
Fan subscriptions
Offer up to three tiers at once, priced anywhere from $3 to $200 a month. The $3 floor exists because below it the fixed card fee eats the entire margin.
Prices cannot be edited in place, because a card processor treats a price as immutable. Changing a price creates a new tier; existing subscribers keep the price they signed up at until they change it themselves. Archiving a tier stops new subscribers joining without cancelling anyone already on it.
Super Chats
During a live stream, a viewer can pay to highlight and pin their message, from $3 to $500, with up to 200 characters. Larger amounts get a warmer card and a longer pin. There are no animated gift storms; it is one tasteful card with a timer.
Brand deals
A business sends an offer, you accept or decline, the money is held in escrow, and it is released when the work is delivered. The 8 percent take is well below the market rate because Surf already charges the business for its plan. The rate is locked onto each deal when it is created, so a future change never reprices a live one.
