Direct messages
One-to-one and group threads, encrypted end to end by default, with the usual editing, reacting and forwarding.
Messages are up to 2,000 characters. A thread carries text, photos, video, voice notes, stickers, GIFs, locations, contacts and polls.
What you can do to a message
- Reply
- Quote one message inside the thread.
- React
- Six quick reactions, or any emoji.
- Edit
- Change a sent message. It is labelled as edited.
- Delete for me
- Removes it from your copy only.
- Delete for everyone
- Removes it from the thread for all participants.
- Forward
- Send it to another thread. Forwards are labelled.
- Star
- Save it to the starred list, which has its own screen.
- Pin
- Keep it at the top of the thread for everyone in it.
Voice notes
Recording length depends on your plan: 60 seconds on Free, 2 minutes on Sapphire and Pro, 5 minutes on Ultra.
Message requests
A message from someone you do not follow back arrives as a request. Until it is accepted, everything you send stays a request, and the app says so rather than pretending it was delivered normally. Requests can be turned off entirely in Settings, then Privacy.
Searching
Search runs across your conversations, and a result opens the thread scrolled to that exact message rather than dumping you at the bottom.
