Lists
Feeds you assemble by hand from accounts you choose, separate from who you follow.
A list is a feed drawn only from the accounts you put in it. It is the tool for reading one subject on its own without reshaping your main feed to do it.
Making one

Add and remove accounts at any time. A list has its own feed, and changing who is in it changes what that feed shows from then on.
Lists and following are separate
Putting someone in a list is not following them, and following someone does not add them to any list. That separation is the point: a list lets you read an account closely without that interest feeding back into your main feed.
