Reporting and appeals
How to report something, what happens next, and how to appeal a decision about your own account.
Reporting a post or an account
- Open the menu on the post, or on the profile.
- Choose Report.
- Pick the reason that fits best. The reason routes the report, so it matters.
- Add context if there is any. A sentence of specifics helps more than a paragraph of outrage.
Reports are reviewed against the Community Guidelines. Reporting does not tell the other person, and does not block them: block separately if you want them gone from your view immediately.
Inside a Space
A Space's moderators handle reports against its own rules. Anything that breaks the platform guidelines can be reported to Surf as well, and a Space cannot permit what the platform prohibits.
If something of yours is removed
You are notified, the notice names the guideline involved, and it carries an appeal. Appeals are reviewed individually rather than by the system that made the original call.
Automatic screening
Media is screened on upload. Clearly explicit content is blocked outright; borderline media is blurred behind a control you can choose to open. Video is sampled at several points rather than judged on one frame, so a single misread frame does not block a whole clip.
Urgent situations
For anything involving immediate physical danger, contact your local emergency services first. Then report it here, through Report a problem, which also handles copyright, privacy and legal requests.
